Most sessions will last a clinical hour (50 minutes). However, EMDR and family sessions may be longer. Your counselor will discuss this with you at your first appointment.
We have found that weekly meetings improve the client’s progress towards their goal. This is especially true for children and teens. When the sessions are spaced out beyond weekly, it slows down the trust-building process and clinical progress and extends the overall length of time in counseling. We attempt to schedule recurring weekly appointment times to aid in this goal.
The first few (1-3) sessions are rapport building and getting a thorough history and establishing treatment goals. The following sessions dive deep into working through your established treatment goals. Depending on treatment goals, we tend to see clients for 6 months - 1 year in length (on average). However, every individual’s needs and treatment is unique.
With general psychotherapy or counseling, there are benefits and risks. Since therapy often involves discussing unpleasant aspects of your life, you may experience uncomfortable feelings like sadness, guilt, anger, frustration, loneliness, and helplessness. On the other hand, psychotherapy has also been shown to have many benefits. We know this sounds hard and scary, however the outcome of therapy leads to many benefits! Therapy is a collaborative process between you and your counselor, and it often leads to better relationships, solutions to specific problems, significant reductions in feelings of distress which can improve physical health. Therapy calls for an active effort on your part, and in order to be most successful, you will want to work on items we talk about both during our sessions and at home. Please remember that there is no guarantee of what you will experience.
In consideration of the counselor and other clients, we ask that you give 24 business-hour cancellation notice. Clients are responsible for full payment of missed appointments or late cancellations/rescheduling.
We are blessed to be working with Liz’s Legacy to provide scholarships for our clients 18 years and younger. The scholarship is an agreement between all three parties—the client, Liz’s Legacy, and Open Doors. The counselor provides a reduced rate, Liz’s Legacy pays a portion of the session and the client pays the remaining amount. These scholarships are limited and an application is provided to determine if the client qualifies.
We do offer a reduced fee application for those interested in applying. The client needs to provide a W2 and display the financial need. Your therapist will also talk to you about other steps you can take to seek assistance in paying for counseling such as asking your church or support system to invest in your healing process.
Our counseling sessions range from $125 to $165 per session.
Our fees are based on the counselors' experience levels, specialties, and training and certifications.
